Inside Drift: Meet Miles Kane, Director, Enterprise Sales

Welcome back to Inside Drift, where we introduce you to the fantastic people on our team that make Drift a great place to work.

So far you’ve met Shannon Donovan, Mary Mitchell, Catherine LaMacchia, Nadine Shaalan, Kahlil Trocmé, Britnee Laughlin, Allison Betito, Carolina Caprile, Michelle Ai, Frank Schepps, Tate Knapp, Alexa Nguyen, Zareena Javed, Chrissie Cronin, Jason Richman, Stacy Chen, Lillian Frost, and Josh Moody.

Today I’m excited to introduce you to Miles Kane, Director, Enterprise Sales. Miles was employee #77 at Drift back in 2018 (there are currently over 500 of us 🤯) and has played a huge role in growing and leveling up our sales function. He currently leads the team that helps Drift’s largest customers adopt the world’s first Revenue Acceleration Platform at scale. We’re also all huge fans of Miles’ mother, Ellen Kane, who has been a guest speaker at Drift as part of our monthly mentor series about her published book 📚

Ready to meet Miles? Let’s go ⚡

Editor’s note: The following has been edited and condensed for clarity.

Kaitlyn Martins: We’ll start with the basics. Can you tell me about your role at Drift?

Miles Kane: I lead our Enterprise Account Management sales team which is a team focused on helping our largest customers take full advantage of the Drift Platform.

Kaitlyn: What does your day-to-day typically look like?

Miles: No two days are the same, which is what I love about my job! Always a good mix of 1:1s, cross-functional meetings, and meetings with customers to better understand the challenges they’re facing in this new normal and how Drift can help them achieve their business goals.

Kaitlyn: Now that Drift is a Digital First company, how has your routine changed?

Miles: It feels like a lifetime ago when we actually commuted to an office each day. Being Digital First allows more flexibility to integrate our lives into our day-to-day. Whether it’s a quick lunch, Peloton workout, or being able to run an errand in the afternoon, the flexibility that Drift allows us now has been life-changing. Oh, and after talking about it for years I finally moved to sunny Los Angeles 😎

Drift’s approach to Digital First was featured in the Boston Globe. Check out the full story here.

Kaitlyn: You’ve built and led a number of sales teams in the B2B space throughout your career. What sets Drift apart from other places you’ve worked?

Miles: We have the leaders who have been there before, game-changing tech, and a massive market to go after. Every single company in the world right now is re-thinking their digital go-to-market strategy, and at Drift, we are honored to be at the center of so many of those conversations.

Kaitlyn: What is your favorite part about your job?

Miles: My favorite part of my job is helping talented sales pros create a successful career for themselves and reach goals they previously thought were impossible.

Kaitlyn: Your team has grown a lot over the past couple of years and is currently hiring! What qualities do you look for in someone looking to join your team?

Miles: Coachable, curious, and competitive. There is a lot to learn in our space and it is evolving quickly. But if you have the right DNA for a hypergrowth company like Drift, the sky’s the limit for you.

Kaitlyn: What’s a fun fact that people might not know about you?

Miles: I’ve seen Bruce Springsteen in concert over 50 times. Fingers crossed we will see another E Street Band tour post-pandemic.

Kaitlyn: What excites you the most about the direction Drift is heading?

Miles: There is no going back to the way things were pre-2020, and that means every business on the planet has to rethink the way they go to market and sell to customers. A Digital First strategy means being able to meet your buyers where they are online, no matter where they are or the time of day. Drift is uniquely set up to help solve these problems for our customers for years to come. Our best days are truly ahead of us.

Kaitlyn: Finally, what advice do you have for prospective Drift candidates?

Miles: Do your research on the company and who you are speaking with. But most importantly, be yourself. We are building a diverse team of talented sellers in our org and want to speak to folks who are ready to come help take this thing to the moon 🚀
