Inside Drift: Meet Frank Schepps, Senior Sales Operations Analyst

Hey everyone đź‘‹

It’s that time again – I’m excited to introduce you to another member of the Drift team.

So far you’ve met Fernanda Lavalle, Shannon Donovan, Mary Mitchell, Catherine LaMacchia, Nadine Shaalan, Kahlil Trocmé, Britnee Laughlin, Sam Boyd, Allison Betito, Carolina Caprile, and Michelle Ai.

In this edition of Inside Drift, get ready to meet one of the funniest members of team Drift, Frank Schepps. Frank is a Senior Sales Operations Analyst who joined the Drift team almost three years ago. He’s best known around the office for keeping everyone informed (and entertained) with his sales pacing emails.

Fun fact: Frank and I also grew up in the same Massachusetts suburb, so we always have a lot to talk about when we’re in the office together.

Ready to meet Frank? Let’s go ⚡

Editor’s note: The following has been edited and condensed for clarity.

Kaitlyn Martins: To start, can you tell me a little bit about what you do at Drift?

Frank Schepps: I’m a member of our operations team specifically focused on the systems we use as a company. We are responsible for ensuring that all the tools our team uses are set up in a way that allows them to be as productive as possible with minimal interruption.

Kaitlyn: Why did you decide to join Drift?

Frank: I joined Drift because I loved the energy from everyone on the team and the passion they had for what they were working on. Beyond that, I was excited to be a part of something that could radically change the way sales and marketing teams operate.

Kaitlyn: What does your day to day typically look like, and how has it changed since we started working remotely?

Frank: On average, I have a few dashboards and reports I check to make sure some critical systems are running smoothly and then dive into the tickets for the day. Part of my job is triaging issues our team finds in our systems, so I spend a lot of time digging into why something isn’t working and figuring out what is needed to fix it. Since we started working remotely, I’ve really made a goal to stay active so I try to get outside a couple of times a day to clear my head.

Kaitlyn: Have you picked up any fun hobbies or discovered any hidden talents during quarantine?”

Frank: I have decided to try and understand the stock market a little more. And have realized that reality television is the most binge-able thing to watch when you are sitting at home. I’m currently making my way through Below Deck.

Kaitlyn: Can you tell our readers a little bit about your sales pacing emails? (And also where you get the inspiration to make them so fun and engaging each day!)

Frank: The sales pacing emails are short emails that get sent out to the company twice a week explaining where we are against our goals for the month and quarter. When I took them over, I wanted it to be something that someone from any department could open and understand what was going on (as well as start their day with a smile). I love history and pop culture, so I just started looking up events that happened on the day I was writing about, from there I put together a loose theme and insert fun facts and references throughout the email. Here’s the beginning of one of my more recent pacing emails ⚡

Kaitlyn: What’s a fun fact about you?

Frank: I never missed a day of school from eighth grade all the way through senior year of high school. At graduation, the dean presented me with the “Cal Ripken” award for showing up every day. I was the first person in a few years to make it through all of high school without a single absence.

Kaitlyn: How has Drift helped you in your career development?

Frank: Since I’ve started working here, I’ve been exposed to dozens of new things I didn’t even know existed. From different tools to new ways of approaching problems every day, there is always something new to learn. Getting to understand (and optimize) how the business is operating is really eye-opening and something I look forward to every day.

Kaitlyn: What advice do you have for prospective Drift candidates?

Frank: Come in with ideas and a willingness to combine what you know with what you are learning. The ability to adapt to changes and recognize areas for improvement are core tenants to working here.
