Hi all —
Last month we welcomed Dave Gerhardt back to Drift as our first Chief Brand Officer.
He also just so happened to be Drift’s first full-time marketing hire back in 2015. And now almost two years after he left, he’s back.
His return got me thinking about how nothing is forever in our careers, except the relationships we form, and the reputation we build.
Titles. Tenure at a company. Companies themselves. Those come and go all the time.
To be most successful in your career, you should work the hardest at being a good person. But don’t do it because it’s the smart thing to do. Do it because it’s the right thing to do.
That’s why Drift’s second leadership principle just so happens to be: Create a Culture of Respect and Trust.
Because good people don’t just make for good company, good people make good companies too.
So wherever you are in your career, always remember to be nice to the people you work with. Leave no bridge burned. Leave every place better than you found it. And you never know what could happen if the opportunity arises to come back.
Have you ever returned to work for a previous company? Text me at +1-212-380-1036 and tell me about it.
