What does your mother mean to you?

Who’s a boy gonna talk to if not his mother?

– Donald E. Westlake

Tomorrow is Mother’s Day in the US. So while I typically share a mental model or habit in this newsletter, I wanted to take this opportunity to share a little bit about what my mom has meant to me. And ask you in turn, what your mother means to you. Personally and professionally.

My mom, Cecilia, who worked as a dressmaker in Queens, single-handedly raised me and my brother. She loved what she did even though she worked an insane number of hours and didn’t make much money doing it. She was working on something she really cared about. For me, growing up the son of seamstress fueled a lifelong obsession with making things – from software to building companies to making the perfect homemade pizza.

That’s stuck with me.

And although she’s been gone for eleven years, there’s not a day that goes by where I don’t think about her. She was my everything. She was my rock and she is the reason why I do the things I do. Why I’ve been able to accomplish what I’ve accomplished, personally and professionally.

She’s instrumental to everything in my life.

What does your mother mean to you?

PS The team at Drift also wanted to take some time to honor their own mothers (and the mothers at Drift). Here’s a sneak peek 👇🏽 You can follow us on Instagram @HeyDrift for more tomorrow. Happy Mother’s Day!
